Job Title: Thrift Store Warehouse Supervisor
Department: Thrift Store Reports To: Thrift Store Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
The Assistant Merchandise Manager supports the operational success of the Life Unlimited Thrift Store by overseeing donation intake, inventory processing, warehouse organization, transportation logistics, and merchandise flow. This position provides leadership to warehouse staff, volunteers, and temporary workers while ensuring safe, efficient, and organized back-of-house operations. The Assistant Merchandise Manager works closely with the Thrift Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager to support overall store performance and maintain a steady flow of merchandise from donation receipt through sales floor placement. This role also assists with estate pickups, donation transportation, inventory management, and loss prevention efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee daily warehouse operations, ensuring efficient processing, storage, and movement of donated merchandise.
• Manage donation intake activities including receiving, sorting, staging, and distributing items for pricing and sales floor placement.
• Coordinate merchandise flow between warehouse, processing areas, and retail floor to maintain inventory availability.
• Assist with estate sale pickups, donation collections, furniture transportation, and agency deliveries.
• Operate agency vehicles, including box trucks and cargo vehicles, in compliance with agency policies and safety standards.
• Maintain organized warehouse storage systems and oversee seasonal inventory rotations.
• Conduct routine inventory audits and assist with loss prevention efforts.
• Ensure warehouse areas remain clean, safe, organized, and compliant with applicable safety regulations.
• Provide day-to-day direction and support to warehouse staff, volunteers, community service workers, and temporary employees.
• Train team members on safe lifting practices, equipment operation, donation processing standards, and warehouse procedures.
• Assist in coordinating volunteer assignments and workflow within warehouse operations.
• Monitor equipment, shelving, storage areas, and warehouse supplies; communicate maintenance and repair needs to management.
• Support store expansion initiatives by assisting with logistics, inventory movement, and operational setup activities.
• Maintain accurate records related to inventory movement, donation processing, and transportation activities.
• Assist with unloading deliveries, moving furniture, and handling oversized donations.
• Support emergency furniture requests and other operational needs as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Complete required annual trainings.
• Maintain current knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS
• This position requires extended periods of walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, kneeling, climbing, and lifting throughout the workday.
• Regularly requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally more with assistance.
• Requires frequent loading and unloading of furniture, donations, and inventory items.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, bend, and operate vehicles and equipment.
• The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb ladders, and work in warehouse storage areas.

Work is performed in a retail and warehouse environment with varying temperatures. The noise level is typically moderate to high. The position may require outdoor work during donation pickups, estate sales, loading activities, and transportation duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Be at least 18 years of age, proof of high school diploma or G.E.D., or completion of G.E.D. within 12 months of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years of warehouse, inventory, logistics, retail operations, or related experience preferred.
• Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or temporary workers preferred.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
• Knowledge of inventory control and warehouse best practices preferred.
• Must demonstrate safe practices in all areas and exemplify positive professional standards.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must carry minimum coverage applicable by law for auto insurance.
• Ability to safely operate trucks, cargo vans, or similar vehicles preferred.
• Must receive seasonal flu vaccination.
